Ms. Townsel is no stranger to the stage. This Shreveport, LA native is the daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Charlie Lee Townsel and Mrs. Doris S. Townsel. This dynamic actress has received many honors on the local, state, and regional level for her artistic work. She is a part of the award-winning ensemble cast of Mahogany Ensemble Theatre's production of For Colored Girls... which received outstanding honors at the 2011 American Association of Community Theatres. She has also been the recipient of several awards including: 2011 Woman of the Year for the area of Theatrical Performances by Top Ladies of Distinction, 2008 Best Actress Award by the Southern Black Theatre Festival, and 2005 Best Actress Award for Drama at Wiley College.
Ms. Townsel has performed in numerous productions for various theater companies including: Mahogany Ensemble Theatre Productions such as Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery, CROWNS, Steal Away, The Madam CJ Walker Story, Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, The Bluest Eye, Ritual Murder, A Raisin In the Sun, Dreamgirls, The Wiz and For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow is Enuf. She has also performed in many productions with Extensions of Excellence, Inc. including The Marker: The Viola Liuzzo Story, My Soul is A Witness, A Song for Coretta, The Face of Emmett Till, The Righteous Saints of Greater Faith, Papa’s Blues, Resurrection, and Saint Lucy’s Eyes. Her other theatre credits include: Theatre of the Performing Arts: Contributions, Day of Absence, Yazzy; Inter City Row Modern Dance Company: 12 Mood for Jazz, Strange Fruit, Spirituals and the Blues; Vision 3 Productions: Reap What You Sow and Where Was God; Lisa Blakely Productions: Taste & See, Get Thee Behind.
She is also a gifted speaker and vocalist and currently performs with the Adoration Gospel Ministries “The Townsel”. Ms. Townsel especially thanks God, the Theatre of Performing Arts, Inter City Row Cultural Art Center for Humble Beginnings.
